Sustainable Community Forestry Planning and Policy Assistance
Through the Sustainable Community Forestry Program (SCFP), the Georgia Forestry Commission focuses on the future of our community forests by helping local leaders recognize the value of trees and to plan with trees in mind. Through the use of conservation easements, tree boards, tree ordinances, management assistance, risk assessments for fire protection, and citizen support groups, community leaders can build a sustainable program that minimizes the loss of trees while maximizing their benefits.
The Georgia Model Urban Forest Book
helps organize community support and plan development with green infrastructure in mind. It is divided into four chapters: Why an Urban Forest, Space for the Urban Forest, Building an Urban Forest and Measuring Success.
