Management Forester - 13376

There are no vacancies currently being advertised; however, please feel free to submit an application for Management Forester at any time for future consideraton.

 

PLEASE NOTE: All Foresters will be hired as Temporary Hourly Workers @ an hourly rate of $14.50 for approximately 3 months before being considered for Full-time positions.  Provided that training has progressed satisfactorily and a funded vacancy is available, the applicant will be considered for Full-Time employment after the initial 3 months.

 

Duties & Responsibilities. Provide technical assistance to landowners in all areas of forest management.  Write multiple resource based forest management plans for landowners.  Assist with timber sales on state lands.  Provide technical assistance to landowners in afforestation and reforestation.  Diagnose insect and disease infestations and make recommendations for control.   Assess storm damage to forest lands.  Develop prescribed burning plans and assist with implementation.  Provide assistance with establishing Streamside Management Zones.  Present forestry programs to school groups and local government bodies.

Training and Experience:  Completion of a BA or BS undergraduate degree in a forestry major at an accredited four year college or university

Preferred Qualifications:  minimum of 2 years of field work experience

Ranger 1

Please Note:  Ranger 1 applicants will be hired as Temporary Hourly Workers @ an hourly rate of $11.50 for approximately 3 months before being considered for Full-time positions.  During that time it is expected that initial Wildland Firefighting training will be completed and that the applicant will have obtained the appropriate Commercial Drivers License (pay increases will be given for successful completion).  Provided that training has progressed satisfactorily and a funded vacancy is available, the applicant will be considered for Full-Time employment after the initial 3 months.

 

All Ranger I applications must be submitted to the address noted for the specific vacancy.  Applications submitted to the Human Resources office will not be considered. 

To qualify for the Ranger 1 job you must complete an ACT WorkKeys assesment in the following three categories: “Locating Information”; “Reading for Information”; and “Applied Mathematics”.  You must score level 3 out of a possible 6 on the Locating Information assessment, level 3 out of a possible 7 on the Reading for Information assessment, and level 4 out of a possible 7 on the Applied Mathematics to be considered for interviews.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Operate two to five ton trucks and medium to heavy crawler tractors in the suppression of wild fires.  Prepare reports, including measuring and computing acreage.  Assist landowners in control burns and plow pre-suppression breaks.  Perform preventive maintenance and small repairs to fire suppression equipment.

 

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:  Applicants must live, or relocate to, within 30 minutes of assigned work unit, have valid driver's license at hire, and be able to obtain CDL license.             

Preferred Qualifications: include 1 year experience operating and maintaining heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.

DISPATCHER (This is a part-time position)

Location:  Macon Headquarters off I-16

Pay - $8.00/hour

Hours – Variable, depending on shift, Weekends and holidays required

Position is part time (Typically averaging 25-30 hours per week)

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Under limited supervision and in support of fire control activities, operates and monitors a voice and data communications system consisting of:  two-way radio, telephone and computer data communications network.  Assist in location, dispatching of equipment and maintaining radio contact with personnel.  Stay abreast of current fire information, issue weather updates, receive and process burning permits.  Performs related clerical work including completion of reports and answering and forwarding incoming telephone calls.  Performs minor janitorial duties within the dispatch work area.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  High school diploma or equivalent.  Applicants should possess the following training and/or experience:  Demonstrated competencies that display or give evidence of the ability to speak clearly to communicate with personnel over a two-way radio and a telephone communication network, including the ability to read and comprehend information, ability to receive and transmit messages correctly and provide clear directions and an accurate description of situations when dispatching resources to accidents and to locations of road hazards.  Must be able to record and interpret verbal instructions.  Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Products including:  Work processing/Data base/Excel/E-mail & Internet.
